| 요약 | "My interests in the intersections between ombuds institutions and human rights dates back to 1990 when, during a secondment as lawyer to the Office of the Ombudsman of Alberta, I discovered that human rights issues arose in the work of a classic- based ombuds institution. The explosion in the number of human rights ombuds institutions since that time added another dimension to the theme. My research culminated in the first edition of this book, published in 2004. Since that time, the number of human rights ombuds institutions has continued to climb, some classic- based ombuds have been transformed into human rights ombuds, only national human rights ombuds institutions have been accepted as constituting national human rights institutions (NHRIs), recent UN human rights instruments call on states to use NHRIs to protect, promote, monitor and implement the rights they enshrine and more classic based ombuds apply international and domestic human rights norms in some of their work.
